Battle of the Banks

On Friday December 2, 2011, representatives from a number of financial institutions in the Alberta Capital Region came together to support United Way, in what I hope will become the Alberta Annual Rock Paper Scissors Tournament (We can work on the name later).

In 2010, TD Canada Trust held the first annual rock paper scissors tournament which was designed to enhance employee participation in their United Way workplace campaign. They succeeded, with 30 branches achieving a minimum 75% participation, winning event of the year at our annual Red Tie Gala in February.

In 2011, TD held the tournament again, this time, with the winners moving on to the finals tournament, where they competed against the best rock paper scissors players that BMO, Servus, ATB, CWB and Scotiabank had to offer. The competition was fierce but friendly, as you might expect from competing financial institutions. With noisemakers, mascots, cheerleader pom-poms, and assorted pizza slices spread among the crowd, it was clear that everyone was having a great time. The bronze medal went to Ervin from Bank of Montreal. The silver medal went to Julie from Canadian Western Bank. The champion who took home the gold medal, was Heather from TD Canada Trust.

Congratulations Heather and TD Canada Trust, on your gold meday victory, and for another successful campaign! Thank you for bringing this wonderful event to the Alberta Capital Region. Thank you to all the representatives from the different financial institutions that came together to have some fun and support United Way. The tournament was absolutely spectacular and the energy in the room was phenomenal. I'm really looking forward to 2012.
