Helping Our Neighbours to the North

Thank you to the many of you who have contacted United Way to offer support to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Response effort.

The devastating fires in central and north-central Alberta have changed the lives of many of our neighbours in an instant – approximately 7,000 people have been forced from their homes and dozens of communities evacuated.

The Red Cross is one of 43 Member Agencies to receive ongoing support through contributions made to United Way and is fully active in the efforts to help those who are affected by this unfortunate event.

To ensure that all contributions be directed immediately to the relief efforts in Slave Lake and surrounding area, we are recommending that all donations be made directly to the Red Cross of Central and Northern Alberta at, by phone at 1.800.418.1111 or through your local Red Cross office. If you wish to donate personal care items, food, clothing, furniture or other goods that may be of help, please call the 211 Information and Referral Line by dialing 2-1-1 to learn more about the agencies participating in collection of these products for the wildfire victims.
