It’s in Our “Jeans” to Support the Community -- Guest Blog

Hello everyone,

We hope you’re getting ready for River City Round Up (RCR), a ten day festival that will engage Edmonton and the Northern Alberta region in a celebration of our agriculture and western roots.

As a not for profit organization, Northlands is proud to partner with and support United Way of the Alberta Capital Region.  We do this because of the confidence we have in United Way’s ability to make a real and lasting difference in our community.  United Way’s research, expert staff and experienced volunteers ensure donor dollars are invested where they will have the greatest impact, improving lives and strengthening our community as a whole.

Northlands continues to support United Way through the River City Round Up “Be Seen in Jeans” Campaign, supporting the United Way Red Tie Gala, and assisting in programs such as the United Way U Dodge Competition.

Corporations looking to support United Way and be a part of River City Round Up can order their “Be Seen in Jeans” buttons today.  Then for the duration of the festival, each of your employees can proudly sport their jeans and buttons at work, while knowing their organization contributed to a great cause.

This year’s festival has many exciting educational, sports and entertainment options for everyone.  RCR will begin on November 2nd with a Chili Cook-off in Sir Winston Churchill Square.  The following day, the festival will officially kick-off with a large celebration in the square that will feature live entertainment, educational programming, multicultural performances and a fireworks show.  The festivities will continue until November 11th, with events occurring in and around the city, including the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) and Farmfair International.

The 39th edition of the Canadian Finals Rodeo will take place from November 7–11 and will not only feature the best rodeo athletes in the nation, but two of country music’s brightest stars.  We’re proud to present live acoustic performances by Chris Young and Dean Brody during the first two nights of the event.  This is in addition to a fantastic entertainment experience that will be provided each night following the rodeo at the Buckle.

On the opening night of the rodeo Northlands is offering you the opportunity to purchase tickets for $10, with $2 from every ticket going towards United Way.  You’ll not only be taking in one of the most exciting and thrilling sporting events in Canada, but also contributing to making a difference in our community.  This offer is only available until Friday, October 26, so please contact your organization’s campaign chair today.

Across the pedway at the Edmonton EXPO Centre, Farmfair International will take place from November 4-11 and continue to provide business and educational opportunities for our community. Guests of this year’s event can look forward to a Barbeque Competition, Cattle Drive, Kids Country, Heritage Ranch Rodeo and more!

Change starts when we work together.  The greater our collective action, the greater the impact we can make.  We look forward to continuing this partnership well into the future, and together, making a difference in the lives of the people in our community.
