WE Magazine celebrates one year!

On Sunday, June 17, 2012, the third issue of WE Magazine, sponsored by the City of Edmonton, Community  Services, will hit doorsteps across the city via the last Sunday edition of Edmonton Journal.  This issue of WE is focused on Community Safety.

The third issue is special, particularly because we have come full circle in what seems like a whirlwind year; not only are we celebrating one year of publishing, but we are also celebrating being honoured with the Alberta Magazine Publishers award, Best New Magazine for 2011.

WE Magazine was launched to focus on generating interest, dialogue and support for a wide array of social issues that are experienced in our community.  And, it was the most cost-effective and thorough medium of choice to help us answer the two most common questions we receive from supporters:  “Where does our money go when it’s invested in the community?” and, “Who/how is it helping?”.  So, we set off to provide editorial content that would answer those very questions in an interesting, informative and entertaining way.

Published three times every 12 months, our first issue in July 2011, was sponsored by Enbridge Pipelines and focused on the work being done to end homelessness in the Capital Region. The cover story was about Wendy Ward, one of the very first clients of the housing first approach - to read Wendy’s inspiring story, turn to the pages of wemagazine.ca and the article,  A Home of One's Own.

The second issue of WE Magazine was published just in time for advance copies to be placed on each and every seat at United Way's Red Tie Gala, held at Edmonton Expo Centre on February 23, 2012.  Financial literacy was the main editorial feature and this issue was proudly sponsored by EPCOR who is also a major community partner in Empower U, a financial literacy and matched savings program for women in our community.  Learn more about how EPCOR is teaming up with other community agencies and corporate partners in the sponsor profile;  Powerful Partner  and how this corporate support helps deliver a valuable program to women and their families in our community.

Publishing a magazine is no small task, and we have a lot of people to thank for making this possible -  for our community and our readers. Thanks to Venture Publishing for their professional skill, guidance and extensive experience in custom magazines - they are the reason we are the recipients of Best New Magazine 2011 from AMPA.  Thanks to our three issue sponsors – Enbridge, EPCOR and the City of Edmonton, Community Services.  And certainly, a special thanks to our supporters and readers for allowing us to bring the latest community information to your homes, your waiting rooms and your lobbies.

Enough about us - now we want to hear from you!  This latest issue of WE Magazine includes a readership survey – it’s quick, it’s easy and postage paid.  PLUS – if you send a completed survey card to us, your name will be entered for a chance to win one of two $75.00 gift cards from Ric’s Grill, sponsored by LEP Group.  Simply complete the survey card found in the center of your next copy of WE and mail it back to us – or, if you prefer, go online after June 17, 2012 to WE Magazine Survey.  Completing the survey online also provides you with the same opportunity to be entered to win.

Thanks for your support over the past year and we look forward to hearing from you to help shape the future issues of WE Magazine in the Capital Region.
