At the beginning of this month, a team of women from United Way of the Alberta Capital Region joined up with other women in our community and committed to wearing dresses for the month of June in support of the June Dresses initiative.
June dresses was founded by Adrienne Donnelly a local teacher here in the Alberta Capital Region. She started wearing dresses for the month of June as a way of celebrating the end of winter and start of the summer season. At the end of the 30 days she noticed that she felt happier and more confident.
She began the initiative as a way of giving back to the community and wanted to focus on charities that embodied the same goals. June Dresses is about raising awareness and funds to help empower and build a sense of community amongst women by wearing dresses for the month of June.
This year, all money raised in Edmonton will help support the United Way Empower U program. As the month comes to an end and June dresses is now complete, I want to thank all the women who participated. I look forward to making June Dresses even bigger next year.
