Accounting & Personnel Week of Caring

From September 28th - October 3rd, 2009, Accounting and Personnel Firms in the Alberta Capital Region united to provide nutritious meals, collect and organize food for those in need.

Proper nutrition is critical for individuals to maximize their potential.  This collaborative effort provided Accounting and Personnel Firms with an awareness of the growing problems within our community and provided them with an opportunity to positively impact those is need.

Accounting and Personnel Firms involved include:  BDO, David Aplin Recruiting, Design Group Staffing Inc., Ernst & Young LLP, IS2 Staffing Services Inc, Grant Thornton LLP, KPMG LLP and Peterson Walker LLP.

BDO volunteered their time at Operation Friendship serving lunch to seniors and assembled care kits for Homeless Connect, David Aplin Recruiting organized food at the Edmonton Food Bank and Grant Thornton participated in the Edmonton School Lunch Program visiting 12 schools to serve children a hot lunch. In addition, firms collected food for the Edmonton Food Bank.

In total, participating firms collected over 1000 pounds of non-perishable food for the Edmonton Food Bank!

Thank you to all of the generous accountants and personnel staff who participated and the supportive firms who were able to balance daily work and community giving - this proves that together, we can make a difference in our community!

The Accounting Week of Caring is one component of the Accounting & Personnel Challenge which is a coming together of these two sectors for the purposes of recognizing their collective efforts and to challenge each other in their aim to strengthen communities within the Alberta Capital Region.  These firms will compete based on different criteria regarding their workplace campaigns. 

Congratulations to Ernst & Young LLP winner of the 2009 Accounting & Personnel Challenge.  Ernst & Young LLP's campaign was fun, educational and followed the 10 Steps to running a successful campaign.
