Welcome! The Red Feather Society honours the loyalty of those who have supported United Way for more than 25 years. As a member of this honoured society your efforts have, and will continue, to build a strong community that will benefit everyone.
We have inherited and are the custodians of a proud tradition of caring and sharing in this community – a tradition that dates back many years. United Way has been active in the Capital Region for 75 years and working together we have generated over $385 million for investment in the human services sector.
From our humble beginnings in 1941 as the Community Chest of Greater Edmonton, the Red Feather was our symbol for giving, a federation of 28 social service agencies united to establish a single fundraising campaign dedicated to “taking care of our own”. That first campaign raised $102,905. . . a huge sum for a small city whose needs were dire during the war years.
Today, as United Way of the Alberta Capital Region, we continue to reach out to the community. We represent one of the most critical and extensive collaborative approaches for real change and real community impact. It is with the clear understanding that, as in 1941, when “taking care of our own” was the call to action our fundamental belief remains the same – that together we can do so much more than we can alone.
The red feather has been the iconic symbol of Community Chests in Canada and the U.S. for many decades. It represents courage, compassion and generosity. Please accept our sincere appreciation for your outstanding dedication and support. We are truly honoured to recognize you as a member of The Red Feather Society.

There is something very fulfilling about having the ability to help others. From assisting those in crisis or being part of an organization that continually works to guiding the less fortunate to become independent has been one of life’s greatest joys and privileges. We are very proud to be long term supporters of United Way and will continue to do so with our annual support for today and a legacy gift for tomorrow. We owe it to our children and grandchildren.
United Way makes such a tremendous difference in our community. It is an honor to be associated with the work they do, even in the smallest way.
Bob & Linda Ascah
For more than 30 years we have assisted the United Way through donations and volunteering to better our community. Our lives have blessed us with a multitude of resources we are happy to share. We have great respect for the variety of ways that United Way engages and supports our community and are glad to be a part of that.
“With the confidence that United Way is the biggest bang for my charitable dollar, I am proud to be – and recommend being – a regular donor. Its commitment to effectiveness, efficiency and community priorities has earned my trust. I’m glad to be able to be part of the solution to our community’s needs.”
Marg & Denny May
"We live on a limited income but feel it is important to give what we can. We know that the money we donate to the United Way goes to many important needy causes. We’re proud to be ongoing members of the United Way Red Feather Society.
