Sunday, May 15, 2011 marked the sixth Homeless Connect Edmonton event.
Homeless Connect Edmonton is a community initiative that brings together service providers and volunteers from all across our community with one purpose – to help those that need help most.
For one day at one location, Edmontonians who are homeless or at risk of being homeless can visit the Shaw Conference Centre to access many services including library services, foot care, haircuts, dentistry, mental health assessments, immunizations, birth control, pre-natal support, laundry, housing information, employment, training services and much more. And more than just services, the event is an opportunity to offer our homeless neighbours kindness, hospitality and resources to assist in their progression to a safe, secure home.
It is also an excellent opportunity for the community to work collaboratively toward solutions to end homelessness in Edmonton. I had the opportunity to speak with some of the collaborators and volunteers at the event yesterday. Check it out.
