school supplies for students

No child wants to be the one being picked on; the “easy target” because their parents couldn’t afford brand new clothes and shoes. The start of a new school year is stressful for parents and kids alike. September marks a heavy financial burden for many parents and for some children it marks the start of them wanting to become as invisible as possible so no one notices the hand-me down clothes, last year's shoes and the absent school supplies at their desk.

Often families who struggle paycheque to paycheque have to make a decision between food on the table and a home over buying all of the school supplies on their children’s lists.

No parent would choose to send their child to school without school supplies but for some this isn’t a choice, they simply cannot afford to. For some families the financial burden of school supplies is just too much for them to handle on their own.

Tools for School provides students who may have limited access with backpacks filled with necessary school supplies to start the year.

Students that have barriers to education broken down for them have a greater chance to enjoy school. A love of learning can take a child from poverty to possibility. By providing children and youth with the necessary tools to start school we are helping them pave their path to success as they grow.

Join us this Saturday at Staples in South Edmonton Common, Tera Losa and Fort Saskatchewan and help us fill a bus with school supplies for students in our community, after all it takes a village to raise a child.
