Elevating Futures

POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION COLLABORATIVE

THREE-PART INITIATIVE:

Elevating Futures is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for post-secondary students and faculty members that does not exist anywhere else in Canada.

Poverty is the most #unignorable issue our community faces today. It can’t be solved by one person, one organization or government alone. It takes a community – and our community needs the best minds and hearts developing innovative solutions that will change the lives of people living in poverty.

Six Edmonton-based post-secondary institutions and United Way of the Alberta Capital Region have come together with a commitment to expand understanding, explore solutions and experience what we can accomplish together.

Elevate your potential to change lives and shape the future of our community. Sign up today for this unique, three-part initiative!

EXPLORE the most pressing issues our community is facing and share ideas as part of a mixed team of students and faculty members, working through a poverty-related problem and developing solutions to change the lives of people who are struggling.

Coming out of the Poverty Simulation, you’ll reflect on the biggest challenges you experienced. Then, as a group, select one challenge as your focus problem and develop a potential solution.

Your submission will go through an adjudication process with awards presented for the best solutions that stand the best potential for implementation. Criteria for awards will be based on submissions that are: relevant, innovative, doable, sustainable and clear.

Competition takes place in March 2020. Sign up in person at the Poverty Simulation Day!

EXPERIENCE a celebration event like none other, as Bayshore Home Health presents United Way’s Great Human Race™. Band together with teammates as you take part in a community wide race to gather items and knowledge, working against the clock as you visit local landmarks, social service agencies and community organizations. Victory, great prizes and the honour of becoming community champions awaits.

The Great Human Race™ is being scheduled for March 2020.
