United Way celebrates community ties created during 2018 campaign

Red Tie Gala Awards of Distinction honour campaign volunteers and donors

EDMONTON, AB – On Thursday, February 21, more than 700 community members gathered at the Edmonton Convention Centre for United Way’s annual Red Tie Gala Awards of Distinction. The awards celebrated the many outstanding contributions made by organizations and individuals to United Way’s 2018 fundraising campaign. Please see a list of this year’s award winners below.

Campaign Co-Chairs Andre Corbould and Sarah Chan thanked those in attendance for their commitment toward building a poverty-free region.

“As individuals, your time, tireless efforts and creative ideas have formed ties in our community that will impact the lives of your neighbours immensely,” shared Corbould. “When combined together, these ties become incredibly powerful. These ties build lasting pathways out of poverty.”

The gala featured entertainment by the Tri-City Rat Pack and NXG Company.

The evening came to a close with the announcement of the 2018 campaign achievement of $24 million raised.

“Thank you for all you have done to tie our region together and to work towards creating a community where no one is left behind,” said Chan.

United Way was proud to honour three organizations with the Award of Excellence, recognizing workplace campaigns that raised more than $1 million each. Sharing this prestigious spotlight were: The Provincial Employees’ United Way Campaign ($1.3 million), Enbridge ($1.4 million), and PCL Construction ($2.4 million).

United Way would also like to thank our generous sponsors for this year’s event, EPCOR and CTV.
