Explore the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada through the KAIROS Blanket Exercise

Join GenNEXT to explore the nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada during the KAIROS Blanket Exercise, facilitated by Michelle Nieviadomy.

In this moving participatory learning experience, you’ll step into the roles of First Nations, Inuit, and later Métis peoples as you navigate the “land,” represented by blankets arranged on the floor. Learn how the colonization of this land affected those who were here long before settlers arrived – and continues to impact Indigenous people today. Engage your heart and mind in understanding why the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples is often broken and how we can take action together.

Take part in a talking circle following the blanket exercise to discuss your experience. Share ideas, collaborate, and discuss how, by leveraging the collective power of United Way, you can contribute to truth and reconciliation efforts that build a stronger, more vibrant community.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Admission is by donation — choose any amount that feels right for you. Whether it’s $5 or $100, your presence is what matters.

Registration is open until September 18, 2025.
