There is no one-size-fits-all approach to giving back.
Every company has different employees, customers, resources and corporate social responsibility goals. At United Way of the Alberta Capital Region, we believe the best partnerships reflect those differences.
That’s why our message to businesses is simple: Bring us your ideas.
Whether you’re considering a workplace campaign, volunteer opportunity, corporate gift or something completely different, we’ll work with you to create a partnership that makes sense for your organization and creates meaningful community impact.
Traditional workplace campaigns and corporate gifts remain powerful ways to give back, but they’re only the beginning.
The Edmonton Riverhawks have welcomed United Way into their Community Corner at games, giving us the opportunity to connect with fans and share stories about our work.
The Edmonton Construction Association and Alberta Counsel have incorporated giving into networking golf tournaments, generating support through activities such as mulligan sales. Direct Energy paired a Day of Caring with matched volunteer hours and a corporate donation.
Choice Energy has taken another approach, combining charitable fundraising with new energy plans that help generate funds for United Way.
And one of our newest partnerships shows how something remarkably simple can create ongoing impact.
When downtown Edmonton cocktail bar Plume celebrated its grand opening, it donated 100 per cent of the evening’s proceeds to United Way. Plume was inspired by United Way’s support for local mental health initiatives, recognizing the mental health challenges that can affect people working in the restaurant industry.
Now, Plume is extending that support by using SkipTheDepot to donate the proceeds from its bottle recycling to United Way on an ongoing basis.
It’s an idea we’d love to see more companies adopt. Something already generated through day-to-day business operations can become a simple source of ongoing community support.
United Way can help businesses turn corporate social responsibility objectives into action while engaging employees, customers and stakeholders.
That can include fundraising, sponsorship, volunteering, team-building, impact speakers, tours, product drives, employee giving or experiential learning. Or it could be an opportunity we haven’t thought of yet.
Importantly, companies don’t need to arrive with a fully developed plan. Bring us a goal, a challenge or the beginning of an idea, and we can explore the possibilities together.
Behind that flexibility is a serious commitment to impact and accountability. United Way uses community relationships and data to inform decisions, helping corporate partners direct their investments toward both immediate needs and long-term solutions.
As United Way of the Alberta Capital Region celebrates 85 years of community impact, we’re also looking ahead.
Since 1941, countless donors, volunteers, businesses and community partners have helped create life-changing moments across our region. Today, that collaboration remains essential as people face rising costs, mental health challenges and uncertainty.
Every company has something unique it can bring to the table.
So, what’s your idea?
A workplace campaign? A volunteer day? An event? Bottle recycling? Something we’ve never tried before?
Bring it to us. Together, we’ll find a way to make it matter.
Let’s explore a partnership that fits your goals and makes a difference in our community.
