Accessibility hero image

United Way of the Alberta Capital Region has utilized guidelines issued by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to implement functional improvements to myunitedway.ca. We are working to ensure that all content on myunitedway.ca, and all content on other sites managed by United Way of the Alberta Capital region, satisfy Level A and AA Success Criteria set forth in WCAG 2.0.

While we strive to make myunitedway.ca and the other sites we manage as accessible as possible and to meet the WCAG 2.0 guidelines, our pages may not always pass online validation tools. Our approach to using image alternate text attributes, for example, includes keeping redundancies to a minimum, so we will sometimes opt to use empty alt attributes rather than duplicate content already present on the page. Similarly, some third-party hosted content presented contextually on our sites via iFrames or other technologies, including promotions and partner applications, is literally out of our controlled codebase. While we encourage our partners and vendors to comply with industry-wide accessibility standards, we cannot enforce such standards alone.

United Way’s Commitment to Reconciliation

We are all Treaty people. United Way acknowledges our connection to one another, here on Treaty 6 Territory and Métis Nation of Alberta Region #4. The diverse Indigenous Peoples of this land include the nêhiyawak, Blackfoot, Dene, Anishinaabe, Nakota Sioux, Inuit, and Métis. Many of our staff are settlers living and working in this Territory. We all have a responsibility to uphold the spirit and intent of the original treaties and build relationships, trust, and understanding. We are grateful for the resources, knowledge, and culture Indigenous people share with us as we walk the path towards reconciliation together. We honour and respect Indigenous contributions supporting our work to ensure no one in our community is left behind.
