For over 30 years, one of our community’s most cherished traditions has been the sight of neighbours helping neighbours, donating warm winter coats to ensure everyone can face our cold Alberta winters with dignity.
Through it all, one dedicated partner has been with us every step of the way: Page the Cleaner.
This year, as United Way of the Alberta Capital Region evolves to meet the changing needs of our community, we are proud and grateful to announce that Page is stepping up to lead the charge and continue this important work.
Earlier this year, United Way made the strategic decision to close its InKind Exchange warehouse and retire the programs delivered from that location, including Coats for Kids & Families. This decision was not made lightly. As we assess how to ensure donor dollars have the greatest impact, we recognize that managing a warehouse and in-kind donations requires significant staff time and financial investment that can be better directed to front-line agencies providing critical services in our community – from strengthening mental well-being to empowering financial security.
“For 30 years, Coats for Kids & Families has been a beautiful example of this community’s generosity. Making the strategic decision to retire the program to deepen our investment in our front-line social sector partners was not easy, but it was necessary to ensure we are having the greatest possible impact,” says Rob Yager, President and CEO of United Way of the Alberta Capital Region. “Knowing that our trusted corporate partner of three decades, Page the Cleaner, is carrying this initiative forward with such passion and commitment makes this a truly positive evolution. This is what community partnership looks like in action, and we are proud to support them.”
In making this strategic shift, United Way’s first call was to its friends at Page the Cleaner. For decades, Page has been the quiet hero of the coat drive, generously donating its services to clean winter wear items before being distributed to community members.
We are so grateful that Page has chosen to sustain the program’s mission by launching Coats for Kids & Families by Page. Their leadership ensures that this compassionate community initiative will continue warming hearts and bodies for years to come.
The need for warm winter clothing in our community remains tremendous, and you can continue to be part of the solution.
United Way is proud to support Coats for Kids & Families by Page. New and gently used winter wear is now being collected, and you can find information on drop-off locations and how to get involved on Page’s website.
While United Way’s role in the program has changed, our commitment to ensuring everyone in our community can thrive has only deepened. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create a resilient, connected, and thriving region for all.
