Women United is focused on ensuring women have full and equal access to resources and opportunities to help them overcome these barriers. Women United supporters come together in their purpose to create a brighter future for women and their families.

Available in unisex and ladies styles, our special edition Women United t-shirts allow you to wear the change you believe in. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each shirt supports United Way and partner social agencies in their delivery of programming, resources, and services to vulnerable women and girls in our community.

Nigerian-American author and speaker Luvvie Ajayi’s quote “In a world that wants women to whisper, I choose to yell” perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the Women United initiative. Through United Way, Women United supporters push back against the status quo and the systemic barriers that keep women and girls from thriving.
Illustrated by Edmonton-based artist Amanda Schutz, this t-shirt’s powerful declaration is a commitment to women and girls in our community — to help strengthen mental wellbeing, empower financial stability, and create equitable access to education. Together, these efforts form a resounding yell against inequality, echoing the determination to build a future where every woman and girl can reach her full potential.
Emily Chu (she/they) is a Chinese illustrator and visual artist based on Treaty 6 (Edmonton). Emily’s practice includes commercial illustration, murals, storytelling, sketching, and community-arts initiatives. Some of Emily’s murals can be found at Alberta Craft Gallery and Shop, Loblaws Ice District, Fringe Theatre Arts Barns, and Millennium Place to name a few. Outside of commercial arts, Emily is the founder and lead organizer of Chinatown’s Lunar New Year event Togather Chinatown Arts Festival, and Chinatown Stories Map. She is also co-organizer of the arts fundraiser project Chinatown Greetings.
Edmonton-based artist Amanda Schutz‘s illustrations have been in campaigns, magazines, children’s books, and exhibitions across Canada and the United States. She is owner and creative director at Curio Studio and past-president of the Graphic Designers of Canada, Alberta North Chapter. In 2022, Amanda was named a Fellow of the Design Professionals of Canada (the Society’s highest honour). Recently, she has been focusing on a new design advocacy project called Canadian Women in Design. She enjoys design, art making, nature, teaching kids or adults, and collaborating with positive thinkers

Alicia and Ace access Norwood Centre’s Parent Respite, a United Way-funded program that provides drop-in childcare and family support workers. Now, Alicia can go to school for nursing while her son gets quality early-childhood education.
After coming to Canada as a Syrian refugee, Moumenah took part in an Empower U course at Islamic Family to better understand finances in Canada. Empower U is a United Way program that provides participants with financial literacy training and a matched savings program.
Nevaeh discovered a love of cooking through the United Way-funded Community Kitchen Program delivered by the Alberta Parenting for the Future Association. But she also found a place where she could thrive, in turn building her confidence and resilience.
Vanessa was homeless and numbed her feelings of guilt and shame with drugs and alcohol. When Child Welfare told her she couldn’t live with her son due to her addiction, she decided to reach out for help.

We rally together because we all believe in building up our communities, but our why's, our backgrounds, and our personalities are all so different. These connections lead to new opportunities, self-reflection and a lot of laughs. You can leave a Women United event feeling great for so many reasons - contribution, connections, and a fun experience!
