We change lives by engaging passionate changemakers, investing in effective programs and services, and working in partnership with the system of agencies to create long-term solutions. Together, we can ensure that no one in our community is left behind.
Our mission is to ensure that no one in our community is left behind.
A strong and vibrant community is better equipped to respond to new and urgent needs and challenges. We are focused on two critical areas that build community resilience: strengthening mental health and creating equitable opportunities for education and financial security. These build the foundation of a strong community that can tackle any challenge.
United Way of the Alberta Capital Region takes a systems-wide approach to collaborate and deliver local programs and services that address multiple facets of community well-being.
You are an essential part of a movement to build strong and vibrant communities where no one is left behind. Your contributions are amplified by joining forces with thousands of passionate members of our community to collectively create positive social change.
We envision a strong and vibrant community, where…
In pursuing our vision, through our values we will:
We are all Treaty people. United Way acknowledges our connection to one another, here on Treaty 6 Territory and Métis Nation of Alberta North Saskatchewan River Territory. The diverse Indigenous Peoples of this land include the nêhiyawak, Blackfoot, Dene, Anishinaabe, Nakota Sioux, Inuit, and Métis. Many of our staff are settlers living and working in this Territory. We all have a responsibility to uphold the spirit and intent of the original treaties and build relationships, trust, and understanding. We are grateful for the resources, knowledge, and culture Indigenous people share with us as we walk the path towards reconciliation together. We honour and respect Indigenous contributions supporting our work to ensure no one in our community is left behind.
In Canada, United Way is a network of more than 75 local United Way offices. Each office is registered as its own non-profit organization and governed by an independent volunteer-led local Board of Directors. Each United Way works locally to raise funds and invest in improving lives in its own community.
United Way has a long history in Canada, dating back nearly a century. Over the years, we have been known by many names – among them Community Chest, United Appeal, and Red Feather. Since 1941, when “taking care of our own” was our call to action, we have worked in the Alberta Capital Region to provide support for those in need. Today, our fundamental belief remains the same: that together we can do so much more than we can do alone. Our impact is multiplied when our actions and resources are combined with others.
We make it our business to know this community – and what it needs most – inside and out.
United Way of the Alberta Capital Region is home to more than 70 employees, who are subject matter experts dedicated to building a community where everyone can thrive.
